Christmas: The Recap

A quick list of what I wish I could report for our Christmas...lots of handmade gifts, yummy baking, awesome decorations, a general feeling of goodwill towards others, spiritual renewal, etc.

The reality...not so much. Christmas of FAIL. Ok, not fail, but I really feel like I dropped the ball bigtime.

I didn't even get the tree up this year. Again. This is probably not an altogether bad thing, given that Isaac has decided that he is not interested in walking, he is interested in climbing. Crazy baby.

We gave him a train table for Christmas, and currently he is obsessed with trying to climb onto it. I can only imagine what he would have done to the tree. Aluminum trees are surprisingly light, and he could have brought it down easily. Still, it sucks to have such drop-dead fabulous Christmas festoonery and leave it all in the garage. At least I know he won't really remember this Christmas. I will do better next year.

Isaac's favorite thing about Christmas was, of course, wrapping paper. He enjoyed ripping it and waving the pieces around. Boxes were also a big hit.

Dennis turns 40 next week, and his birthday present arrived earlier than expected, so of course I gave it to him because I really suck at keeping things secret. We have a Wii! And sore arms! We were shooting toilet plungers at insane rabbits late Christmas Eve and he said, "THIS is why we crawled out of the ocean and became monkeys." So I think he likes it. Now I just need to find Guitar Hero. And re-arrange the living room, because our current setup is not Wii-friendly. It's also not especially toddler-friendly, so ideally the redesign will be an improvement on a couple of fronts.

I only had a few days off from work, thanks to year-end crapness. I'm trying not to be grumpy about it, but it's hard. It was so much fun to be home with Dennis and Isaac. I'm going to take some time off in January to make up for it and try to get more work done around the house. I desperately need to get my sewing area set up, for one thing. (and, uh, get better at the rabbit game)

Isaac had his 1 year developmental assessment last week, and was pronounced Awesome. He rocks at language, cognitive ability, and fine motor skills. He hated the cognitive tests aka Piss Off The Baby. Part of it involved giving him small blocks and then taking them away and hiding them under and behind things, and he was getting so annoyed at having to go get them. Such an angry little chicken. But he's doing very well, and they'll check in with him again in a year, but we don't need any specialists for follow-up. So yay. And that's an Isaac-style yay, complete with hand-clapping and throwing one's fists above one's head. The boy knows how to communicate YAY.
